KfW promotion "Solar power for electric cars"

In a nutshell - what's it all about?

KfW 442 “Solar power for electric cars” promotes the purchase and installation of a charging station for electric vehicles in combination with a PV system and a solar power storage unit. The aim is to motivate private individuals to create charging infrastructure in the private sector and to use self-generated electricity from a private photovoltaic system to charge their own electric cars. Up to €10,200 per household is to be subsidized.

What exactly is supported?

  • The purchase of a new charging station with at least 11 kW charging power
  • The purchase of a new PV system with a peak output of at least 5 kWp
  • The purchase of a new solar energy storage system with at least 5 kWh storage capacity
  • The installation and connection of the entire system, including all installation work
  • An energy management system to control the entire system

You are eligible for funding if:

  • You are the owner of an electric car, or if you have already placed a binding order for an electric carYou are the owner of an electric car, or if you have already placed a binding order for an electric car
  • The residential building for the PV system is occupied by yourself
  • The charging station, PV system and storage system are purchased from the factory but have not yet been ordered at the time of application

For you, this means: first submit an application (possible from 26.09.23), then order goods and commission the service provider.

Attention! Not all wallboxes are included in the subsidy.

The conditions previously severely restricted the group of eligible applicants, which is why KfW has now adjusted its conditions so that owners of PV systems and wallboxes should also be able to participate in the funding program. The following conditions have been specified:

  • If you already have a charging station, a subsidy is possible if you buy another brand-new wallbox that is eligible for a subsidy
  • If you already have a PV system, you can expand it by at least 5 kWp and buy a brand new inverter or install a completely new PV system with at least 5 kWp including inverter to receive a solar subsidy from KfW
